twit twoo
A week on Saturday I shall be flying in to Detroit, to take part in the week long wonder that is Michigan's Authors in April. I'm looking forward to it immensely and should have blogged about it before, but as anybody who reads my blogs will know, I'm not a blogaholic. Indeed, I had to go onto the radio the other day to talk about blogging's latest spawn, Twitter, the 140 character splurge through which Stephen Fry informs us he is stuck in a lift or Jonathan Ross that he has returned home from the gym. Would I ever use it? I thought not. To me, Twitter should be the preserve of the brilliant, i.e. those whose epigrammatic wit rivals Oscar Wilde's. Every Tweet should be a masterpiece. What Twitter serves up mostly, however, is the literary equivalent of dog vomit (please excuse if you're reading this over breakfast), i.e. undigested, unmemorable slop. Just because you can say it doesn't mean you should.
Tweet Tweet.

Hello, I go to Hart Middle School (the school you visited today) First, thank you for coming! I really enjoyed your visit! Sadly, I never got to meet you. You may not remember, but I almost ran into you today. Litterally. I was wearing the side-tie ponytail, not like that will help. Anyway, I am in the middle of writing a book myself. Ever since I could hold a pencil, I have been writing. I am hoping that you could give me some advice. My librarian says she has been in contact with you, and I hope I can do the same. But if your too busy, I understand. My mom went to the library and got me HOW THE HANGMAN LOST HIS HEART. Sadly, it had to be after I returned home and I couldn't get your autograph.

Hello, Sarah, We did meet briefly when you told me you'd emailed, and I'm so glad we did. So - you want to be a writer too! I'd be glad to give you some advice if you'd like to post some questions. I won't be home until Sunday, so I may not reply at once, but don't let that stop you posting.
I'm having such a good time in the USA. Michigan gives its Authors in April such a great welcome.
very best wishes from one author to another ....
Katie
Thank you so much for replying to me! It really means a lot. I do not have any questions at the moment. I did before you replied, but I figured it out. If I get stuck, (which is going to happen) I will be sure to ask you! Thank you.

ps- I will probably sign out like that a lot. It gives me hope.
I have sent you the first and second chapter of my book. I have so far written three and a half chapters. Tell me what you think!

Hi again, hope-to-be-author Sarah, I'm looking forward to reading your chapters. Did you send them on-line? If so, they haven't come through - perhaps attachments can't come through a blog. The best thing might be to fill in the 'reply to' part of your email with your own email address so that you and I can email directly. Then you'll be able to attach your chapters with no problem. Does that sound ok?
very best,
Katie
Hello. I sent you a email that might explain things. I couldn't find a place labled 'reply to'. So after you reply back to my email, I should be able to easily send you the two chapters. Thank you for being patient with me.
Sarah
Hey there, Sarah, try me on
katiegrant@btinternet.com
That should do the trick!
very best,
Katie
Thank you! I sent you the chapters on your email!
